Hensoldt Pentaprisma-Binocle Modell II

Diese rechte Hälfte eines Hensoldt Pentaprismen Fernglases Modell II ist nach K. Porezag (Hensoldt I, S. 296) das einzig bekannte erhaltene Exemplar. Mittlerweile liegt ein binokulares Belegeemxplar vor (s. Foto). Es wurde 1899 als Modellreihe II des Pentaprisma-Bincoles unter der Schutzmarke "Weghes" vertrieben. Das Fernglas wurde irgendwann an den beiden Messingknickbrücken abgesägt und funktioniert so als Monokular aufgrund der Okulareizeleinstellung. Die Augenmuschel fehlt allerdings.

This right half of a Hensoldt Pentaprism Binoculars Model II is the only surviving sample according to K. Porezag (book: Hensoldt I, p. 296). Meanwhile a real binocular Penta II was found (cf. photo). It was distributed under the trademark "Weghes" as a model II of the Pentaprisma-Binocle in 1899. At some time the bridges were sawn off, thus functioning as a monocular, because it had individual focusing. The eyecup is missing, though.

Beim Aufschrauben des belederten Aluminiumgehäuses erkennt man den Bincole-Aufbau. Er besteht aus zwei Aluminiumbehältern, die oben offen und unten bis auf ein Loch für den Strahlendurchgang oben bzw. das Objektiv unten geschlossen sind. In dem oberen Gehäuseteil ist das Pentaprismensystem eingesetzt und wird durch den oberen Messingdeckel (ursprünglich schwarz lackiert, vierfach verschraubt) gehalten. Dieser ist mit "Pentaprisma Binocle Patent" beschriftet – allerdings auf der Innenseite; bei dem Umarbeiten zum Monokular wurde der Deckel umgedreht. Der untere Gehäuseteil ist mit dem oberen durch zwei lange Schrauben verbunden. Die 23mm (24mm?) Objektlinse ist mit ihrer 28mm Messingfassung im 6mm dicken Aluminiumboden eingeschraubt. Dieser war ehemals auch schwarz lackiert. Nimmt man alle Aluminiumgehäuseteile und -deckel auseinander, kann man die Messingbänder der ehemaligen Knickbrücke abschrauben (3 kleine Schräubchen). Am Gehäuse ist eine ca. 3cm lange Metalllippe mit Trageriemenöse angeschraubt. (vgl. a. Porezag, S. 295f.)

When detachung the covers of the leather covered aluminium housing you can see the Binocle construction consisting of two seperate aluminium containers or chambers. These containers are open at the top and closed a their bottom, having a hole each to let the light pass through into the prism (top part) and into the objective lens (bottom part). The penta prism system is put into the top chamber and held by the top cover plate (4 screws, once painted black). The top cover is marked "Pentaprisma Binocle Patent" – on the inside of the cover plate; the cover was turned upside down when refurbishing the Bincole to a Monocle. The top chamber is connected and fixed to the lower chamber by two long screws. The 23mm (24mm ?) objective lens has a 28mm brass frame which is srewed into the 6mm thick aluminium bottom plate once paitned black. When you take all the pieces apart you can unscrew the brass bands of the former bridges (3 tiny scres each). There also is a 3cm long metal strip with a strap lug screwed to the housing. Bei Porezag wird das Glas mit den Werten 8x21 (S. 445) angegeben. Da durch Verunreinigung des Prismenkitts die Abbildung diffus ist, lässt sich dies anhand einer Berechnung über Austrittspupille und Objektivdurchmesser nicht nachvollziehen. Das Objektiv ist jedoch 23mm im Durchmesser. Die vergrößerung könnte kleiner als 8x sein. Die Binocle-Hälfte wiegt 167g, ist am oberen Deckel 28,5 x 50mm und am unteren Deckel 32 x 52,5mm breit. Das Gehäuse ist 69mm hoch, das Okularstück 22,5 bis 28mm, was zusammen mit der Objektivfassung eine Gesamtlänge von 96 - 102mm ergibt.

Porezag sys the model II was a 8x21 glass (p. 445). As the image is blurry because of specs of the prism glass cement, I cannot re-calculate magnification by dividing objective diameter through exit pupil. Yet, the objective lens is in fact 23mm, the magnification might be lower than 8x. The Binocle-half weighs 167g. The housing measures 28.5mm x 50mm at its top and 32mm x 52.5mm at tis bottom. The housing is 69mm tall, the eyepiece 22.5-28mm. Adding the objective frame, the overall length comes to 96 to 102mm.
