Carl Zeiss Vergr.=5

Dieses Monokular entspricht dem Zeiss "Jagdglas 5x25". Der gewölbte Deckel ist mit "Carl Zeiss Jena Vergr.=5" in geschwungener Schrift und nahe des Okulars und Deckelschraube mit der Seriennummer 1164 (nicht ganz deutlich entzifferbar "116?") beschriftet. Die Silberloteinlage ist bei diesem Exemplar aus dem 'Optischen Museum in Jena' mit Folie geschützt (s. Fotos). Es müsste danach von 1904 stammen. Demnach ist auch, wie im Museum ausgeschildert, der Objektivlinsendurchmesser 24mm. Das Monokular ist 13-14cm lang, das Leder ummantelte Gehäuse 53x53mm oben und 60x60mm unten breit. Der Objektivrahmen ist 27mm. Die Dioptrienskala geht von + bis - Fünf. Die Deckel sind dreifach verschraubt. Das Monokular wiegt ungefähr 334g.

This monocular corresponds to the Zeiss "Jagdglas 5x25"! (Hunt Glas). The sloping cover plate is marked "Carl Zeiss Jena Vergr.=5" in cursive script and with the serial number "1164" (hard to decipher '116?') near the ocular and one of the screws. The silver solder inlay of this model from the Optical Museum in Jena is protected with some tape (s. photos). It must date from around 1904. The objective lens diameter is 24mm as stated on the museum display card. The glass is 13-14cm in length. The leather covered housing measures 53x53mm at its top and 60x60mm at its bottom. The objective frame is 27mm. The dioptre scale ranges from plus to minus five. The cover plates have three screws. The monocular weighs about 334g.

Das mir vorliegende frühe Exemplar mit Nr. 27 (1896) hat noch eine 25mm Objektivlinse. Die Seriennummer ist zwischen den beiden Schrauben nahe des Okulars angebracht. Ebenso ist zwischen den beiden Schrauben nahe am Objektiv eine Feststellschraube mit Unterlegscheibe am unteren Ddckel geschraubt, welche das Lösen der Objektivfassung verhindert – bei späteren Modellen geschieht dies durch seitlich durch den Deckelrand geschraubte Schrauben.

The early piece in my possession with No. 27 (1896) has the 25mm objective lens. The serial number is inscribed between the two screws near to the ocular. There is a little screw with a washer set into the lower cover plate between the two screws next to the objective. This prevents the objective frame from loosening. Later models have a set screw screwed into the rim of the cover plates to fix the ocular and objective tubes.
